[[[UPDATE]]]

As mentioned at the last meeting, my eagle project will be this Saturday, December 18th. It is a  location called Zach’s place, which is a daycare center for mentally handicapped youth. The project will be repairing their playground, deck, and building them storage benches to organize the playroom. On December 18th, we will only be doing the deck and playground portion. The project will start at 9:30, and will end somewhere in the early afternoon (1:00pm-3:00pm) depending on the work that gets done. Please be flexible on the end time.  I can still use your help if you aree only able to participate for part of the day.  Please let me know which times you are able to help. There will be donuts and other breakfast food available in the morning, and there will be pizza for lunch in the afternoon. I have a good sized group of scouts that signed up, but I still have room for scouts and adults on the project. If you wish to sign up, email me at reececantwell@comcast.net, or sign up at the next meeting. Please include  name, phone number, preferred email, and tools you can bring. The tools I need for this project are shovels, paint brushes, and cordless power drills, including bits and drills. Also make sure to bring water, sunscreen, work gloves, and proper clothing for the weather since we will be working outside. The location of Zach’s place is 741 Cache la Poudre Dr, in downtown Colorado Springs, 80903. Map directions from Saint Gabriel’s Catholic Church are included.

Please park on N Prospect Street.  We will be entering the back yard through the side gate on the right of the house, not through the house since there will be kids there during the project

Troop,

I am planning my Eagle Project for Dec 4 and Dec 11.  I am doing a food drive for the Merian House, a soup kitchen for the poor and homeless

downtown   They are in desperate need of food.  We will distribute paper grocery bags on Dec 4th and return the following weekend, Dec 11th to collect the donations.  I plan to cover the area from Chapel Hills Drive east to Powers between Briargate Parkway and Research Blvd.  I will provide a pizza lunch and snacks.  We will meet at my house for check-in starting at 8:00AM.  If you can’t get there at 8:00 don’t worry, anytime is good.

My address is 9140 Chetwood Dr and phone is 719-282-7620.  Call if you have any questions or need directions.

I need adult drivers too.  We will pair up 2-3 scouts per driver to distribute the bags and then pick-up the food.  We will do it just like we do the Christmas Tree flyer distro.  I have all of the maps from Mr. Cantwell.  All of the adults that drive have to have Youth Protection Training.  I will need a copy of your cards too.  You can go on-line to take the training and then print out your card.  You can email me your completed card.  This is required by BSA for all adults helping with any Scout or Troop activity.

Here are the instructions:

Online Youth Protection Training

Youth Protection Training is available to registered leaders and other interested adults.

After completing the Youth Protection Training online module, the training participant's name will be compared to information on registered adults on file with the Boy scouts of America. If the Youth Protection Training participant is a registered adult member of the BSA, the following items will be sent back to the training participant:

  • A certificate of completion.
  • A letter from the Scout executive of their council.
  • An explanation of the council's youth protection reporting procedures.
  • A course information handout.

Youth Protection Training participants who are not registered adult members will receive all of the above except the certificate of completion.

Here is the link from the Pikes Peak Counsel web-site.  Click on the link and it will take you to the training page.  Scroll down to Youth Protection Training and click on the link.  It will take you to the BSA training web site.  From there scroll down to the Youth Protection Box and click it.  It will take you to the myscouting page where you can either log-in if you have an account or create a new account.
